Birmingham has gifted the world some of the most iconic names in world music.

A proud heritage of heavy metal heroes stems from Birmingham, such as the fathers of heavy metal Black Sabbath and the legendary Judas Priest.

Led Zeppelin, one of the world's best-loved bands in the world has two proud Black Country sons; Robert Plant was born in West Bromich and John Bonham was from Redditch.

In the pop world, the Birmingham, reggae, new-wave vibes of UB40 have made them heroes. The ska, punk sounds of The Beat and The Specials are distinctly influenced by their Birmingham upbringing.

Today, Birmingham is as much a part of the musical landscape as it ever was. It remains one of the finest cities in the UK for live music and is blessed with a plethora of excellent venues to experience stunning sounds.

The biggest and best venue in Birmingham for the well-known names in pop, entertainment, sports and stand-up comedy – The Genting Arena has an endless stream of events rocking the stage every night.

This venue sure makes for a memorable night, hosting the biggest, most exciting acts in modern music as well as some masters from earlier eras.

The facilities are top-notch; comfy seating with lots of leg-room, plenty of places to buy drinks and snacks without waiting in huge queues and two huge screens that bring you as close to the stars as you could want.

The Hare and Hound has firmly established itself as one of Birmingham's favourite small venues for live music.

This pub which is a genuinely nice place to enjoy a drink or two in the well-stocked bar, however it's the upstairs music venues that really earn this pub its great reputation.

The main room upstairs is great for a small gig by a band you have your eye on. Although don't be surprised to see a well-known name or two on the bill, Nirvana played in the Hare and Hound in their earlier day.

The acoustics are outstanding, the stage is large enough for the band to enjoy themselves and the bar can keep the drinks flowing even well the venue is packed out.

There is a varied mix of performers keen to play here, as reggae, hip-hop and soul acts often make the line-up. You can enjoy a good DJ sets too, with occasional needle drops from the like of Mary-Ann Hobbs and Massive Attack's Daddy G.

Great music, amazing acoustics and a great selection of crisps – what more could you want!
